Our charity of the year

Portner is delighted to support Cancer Research UK as our charity of the year 2022.

Cancer Research UK was chosen after a vote by our partners and staff, and we are committed to raising as much money as possible this year for this vital cause. Members of the firm will be taking part in fundraising events throughout the year in support of Cancer Research UK, and we will update you about these on our News page. Cancer Research UK was formed 20 years ago, although its history goes back to 1902 with the founding of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. It is the only charity to fund research into all 200 types of cancer.

Over the past 40 years, cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled. In the 1970s, just one in four people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today two out of four survive.
Cancer Research UK’s ambition is to accelerate progress and see three in four patients surviving the disease by 2034. Please help us raise funds for this important cause so that together we can help beat cancer.

Our community charity partner

Portner has acted for Vision Foundation for many years and one of our partners, Daniel Broughton, has taken part in several fundraising events for the charity over the years,
including the London Marathon. We are proud to support Vision Foundation, London’s leading sight loss charity, as our community charity partner. The charity was set up in 1921 under the name The Greater London Fund for the Blind to support and give a voice to blind and partially sighted people across London. Today, the charity is called Vision  Foundation and it is still transforming lives. Vision Foundation has distributed more than £30m to sight loss organisations that work to inform, include and empower London’s visually impaired community. Empowerment is at the heart of what the charity does. Its work focuses on what people can do, rather than what they can’t.

You can find out more about Vision Foundation here.
